How to make chocolate oatmeal stout like we did...
Clean and sterilize your work surfaces, and all your beer making stuff, and yourself.
Put oatmeal stout grains in a muslin bag, and put the bag in a big pan with a gallon of water. Heat it to 160 degrees F for an hour.
Remove the bag, add some hops, and boil for 30 minutes.
Put the pan in a sink full of ice and cool the liquid to 75 degrees. This will take a while if you forgot to make enough ice cubes before you started.

Pour some of the beer into your hydrometer test tube and record its 'original gravity' for some reason.
Transfer everything into a big glass jug. Notice that you now have way less than a gallon of liquid, so add more water like it says in the instructions. Then sprinkle in a packet of yeast.
Put some liquid sanitizer in the rubber stopper airlock thing, and seal up the big glass jug with it. Notice later that you didn't fill the airlock to the fill line.
After a while the beer will start to bubble.
Then after a few days it will stop bubbling and just lie there.
Wonder what you did wrong.
